Have you seen what an incredible year we are having in La Antigua de Fuentesaúco Cheese Company?
First of all, in July, at the International Cheese Awards 2013 we had an excellent result with two medals: the first one was a Bronze Medal for the Semimatured Campoestrella sheep cheese in the Best Spanish Cheese category.
And then a Silver Medal for the Aged Vellón de Fuentesaúco (Designation of Origin Zamorano Cheese) in the Best 100% Sheep Milk Cheese category. These awards made us even happier because we hadn’t obtained a medal at the International Cheese Awards for long!
But we did not stop in there! The Global Cheese Awards took place last week, a contest in which, in previous editions, we received one Silver Medal for the Aged Vellón de Fuentesaúco… Well this year the story changed as we greeted 4 AWARDS!! And each one of these awards for a different cheese. The Semimatured Campoestrella got a Bronze Medal in the Best Spanish Cheese category.
Also in the Best Spanish Cheese category our Aged Campoestrella Sheep Cheese obtained the Silver Medal, what means 2 of the 3 awarded cheeses in the Best Spanish Cheese category are from La Antigua de Fuentesaúco. This is also the first award for the Aged Campoestrella but we are sure that is not the last one.
But here comes the best part: in the Best 100% Sheep Milk Cheese category our Aged Vellón de Fuentesaúco got the Gold Medal. Last year this cheese obtained the Silver Medal in the Global Cheese Awards but in a different category (Best Spanish Cheese) but this is the first Gold Medal for the Aged Vellón de Fuentesaúco so, as you can imagine, we are delighted with this result.
And, in the Best Spreadable Cheese, our Torta of Cheese “Caprichos de la Pastora” received the GOLD MEDAL. We need to remark this last one because this an incredible tough category, always dominated by French and Swiss cheeses. And also we need to say that the organization told us that this year only the Gold and the Silver Medal were given, because the jury decided that the rest of the contestants were too far away from the two first ranked cheeses.
And the best part is that the year is not over yet, because this November, 27th the World Cheese Awards will take place, in which we will be participating in two ways: first, as usual, entering our cheeses, hoping to get even more awards this year, and secondly, as part of the jury, in which our colleague Julio García, the Export Manager of the company, will be a member. Taking into account the success we had at the International Cheese Awards and the Global Cheese Awards we are really looking forward to seeing the results of the World Cheese Awards and in this occasion, also to be able to help in the final decisions of which cheeses will be awarded.
