The history of beer is as old as human civilization itself. It is thought that its origin is in the first human settlements around 9,000 BC along with the emergency of agriculture and the abandonment of nomadic life, but it is not until the year 4,000 BC in Mesopotamia that we find the first mention on clay tables.
But the presence of beer in antiquity was not limited to Mesopotamia; the Egyptians also developed beer, in a similar way. They called it “zythum” or barley wine, and perfumed it with cinnamon, honey and sometimes mixed with fruit, as dates.
In the eighteenth century, with the industrial revolution, comes the golden age of beer where it is massified thanks to the incorporation of the steam engine to the brewing industry and the discovery of cold processing technique.
This stage ends in the middle of the nineteenth century when Luis Pasteur discovered the yeast of high fermentation, which made possible the precise control of the transformation of sugar into alcohol. During the 20th century began mass production, where sometimes the quantity privileges the quality. At present, the main producing countries are United States, Germany, Russia, UK, Brazil and China.
In Quesería La Antigua de Fuentesaúco we have a maxim, and that is that a product needs to have a very high quality. We make sheep’s cheese, and we work to make it the best in the world, but we have to marry it, right? For this reason, a few years ago we presented La Antigua Wine. However, the cheese can be mixed in many ways, so we decided that our events and stands could not miss the beer, but this as the rest of our products had to be special.
We chose a craft beer from the land, like our products, Zamora. The main ingredient of it is Belgian Pale Ale in 78%, in addition to employing four other types of roasted malts that bring different shades to the final product.
We must to say that it is not because it´s ours but … where it goes, it triumphs! And despite the fact of being handmade it is soft and easy to drink. Like La Antigua´s wine is an own product that is not for sale but you can taste it in our different events and at the fairs we assist, do not miss the opportunity to try it!
