The world’s most prestigious cheese contest, the World Cheese Awards 2016 will be held from 16th to 18th of November 2016 in Donostia-San Sebastian, in the Kursaal, being the 28th edition in reaching the Festival and in which more than 3000 producers from 35 countries will participate.
The fact that this championship will be held in San Sebastian, will give a qualitative leap in the cheese industry. “It is an exceptional opportunity to make known internationally our way of employment and craft industry” says Artzai Gazta, the association that will be the organizer of this event and has the backing of the Basque Government.
The organization plans that 250 experts will arrive to the capital of Guipuzcoa to serve on the juries responsible for evaluating the different cheeses submitted to the contest.
World Cheese Awards 2016
The festival will begin with the celebration of the World Cheese Awards 2016, a gala dinner at the San Telmo Museum and the awards ceremony in Tabakalera. The Kursaal be a meeting point around cheese for professionals and open to the public, where they also have spaces for business between producers and buyers.
Also on Thursday 17 will be decided for the first time the “Champion of Champions”, a novelty in the 28 year history of the festival with the participation of the 28 cheeses winners. Finally, Friday will be a day in which the leading role will be assumed by the audience, that could participate and enjoy guided tastings, lectures, presentations and variety of showcookings near to renowned Michelin stars. To this day it was also scheduled a student culinary competition to promote the use of Basque cheeses to the students of gastronomy of different training centers.
From Quesería La Antigua de Fuentesaúco we will present our cheeses as in previous years and we just hope we can celebrate at home the victory that other years we had out of there.
